Samuel HAMILTON (1812-1874) and Family in West Hawkesbury, Prescott County Samuel Hamilton, son of Robert Hamilton and Elizabeth Dunbar, was born in 1812 in Tyrone County, Ireland. In 1842, he immigrated to Ontario with his wife Esther Scott (who died during the voyage), his widowed mother, and his brother Robert Hamilton and his family. After arriving in Ontario, Samuel Hamilton married widow Margaret Armstrong (1813-1903), who had a daughter Anne Jane (1836- ). Samuel Hamilton and his family are found in the 1851 census in Hawkesbury, Prescott County, and in 1861 and 1871 in West Hawkesbury, Prescott, County. In the early 1870’s, Samuel Hamilton and his wife Margaret moved to Alpena, Alpena County, Michigan with their children. Samuel died there in 1874. Some members of the family continued to live in Michigan. Others moved to Idaho, Washington and Wisconsin. The children of Samuel Hamilton and Margaret Armstrong were: Anne Jane Hamilton (1836- ) married William Cousins Edward Hamilton (1843- ) who married Harriet Downing James Hamilton (1845-1899) who married Catherine or Kate Samuel Hamilton (1847-1905) who married Margaret Robert Armstrong Hamilton (1850-1915) who married Barbara Anne Shreeves and Elizabeth Thompson Johnston Hamilton (1852-1896) who married Isabella Cochran William Francis Hamilton (1854-1939) who married Hanna Prophet Thomas A. Hamilton (1859- ) who married Etta McGibbon I am descended from Samuel Hamilton and Margaret Armstrong through their son Robert Armstrong Hamilton and his wife Barbara Anne Shreeves.
