Members of the Hamilton family (who were originally from West Hawkesbury, Prescott County, Ontario and Alpena County, Michigan) arrived in Marinette County from about 1885 to 1890. They appear in census records from 1900 to 1930. Some appear in records for local cemeteries. Some family members lived in the area for a few years and then moved on to Washington State. Others stayed in the area of Marinette County, Wisconsin and Menominee County, Michigan. Some members of the Hamilton family were: Margaret Armstrong Hamilton (1813-1903), widow of Samuel Hamilton (1812-1874) James Hamilton (1845-1899) and his wife Catherine (“Kate”) (1851-1900) and their children Laura (1871- ), Amy (1874- ), and James A. (1883- ). Isabella Cochran Hamilton (1850-1935), widow of Johnston Hamilton (1852-1896) and their children Elsie Hamilton (1885- ) and Edgar Johnston Hamilton (1889-1955). Harriet Downing Hamilton (1847-1922), widow of Edward Hamilton (1843- ) and their children Ernest Hamilton (1879-1959) and John D. Hamilton (1871-1943). I am related to this Hamilton family through their common ancestors Samuel Hamilton (1812-1874) and his wife Margaret Armstrong Hamilton (1813-1903).
