I seeking out any information anyone may have about CLEMANCE SAM( dau of Pierre SAM and Francoise MASSE) who married PIERRE BARNABE, free black at Grand Coteau, Louisiana in the 1820's. She appears in the 1860 census in Lafayette, Louisiana living with Jean Baptiste Jean Louis and his wife Angelique(SAM), my g-g-g grandfathers(Jean-Pierre Sam m. Euphemie Rideau in 1856 at Lafayette, Louisiana) sister. CLEMANCE(C1800) is with two other SAM,s. Adolphe Sam(c1830, believed to Angelique's brother based on research and age), and a Philomene(relationship unknown. I believe these CLEMANCE is related to my ancesters. I just dont know the connection. I recently got clues from another researcher. He told that the parents of CLEMANCE SAM were slaves of ANDRE MASSE, one of the first white men to come to southwest louisiana in the mid 18th century. Any information or leads would be extremely helpful. And just in case, heres my tree.
