A Ziehl family left Hamburg in 1858 to go to South Africa. Father, mother, and son younger than 1 year old. I've found some info about the father and son, but the mother has disappeared. I do know she must have died or something because the father remarried and had more children with his second wife in South Africa, but I would like to find out about the first wife if at all possible. Names: Carl / Karl Friedrich Ziehl; wife: Dorothea Kaufmann / Kauffmann; son: Theodor Adam Ziehl. Dorothea was older than Carl. It is also possible that Carl's father was on board the same ship, the Wandrahm, which arrived in South Africa in December 1858. Dorothea was 38 years old when they arrived in South Africa. There does not seem to be any record of the death of Dorothea in South Africa. I have wondered if she went back to Germany (Prussia) and perhaps died there. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
