Hello, I am in search of information regarding my great grandfather, William Edward Krueger. He was born on October 13th, 1890, supposedly in Illinois, although I have relatives that think he may have been adopted. He lived with his mother and father, Emilia (also written as Emilie) Martha (formerly a Schroeder) and Edward Krueger. Sometime between 1900 and 1910, something happened to Edward and Emilia remarried to a man named August Nendze, whom William was living with in 1910 in Bellwood, Illinois. William married his first wife, Jennie Kunkel, in 1912 in Bellwood Illinois. They had four children; Ruth, Esther, Dorothy and Bernice. In 1929, Jennie divorced William, and what he did after the divorce is a bit of a mystery to me, but at some point he made his way to Minneapolis, MN. I have a social security application record for him in 1940 stating that he was living with a wife, Lillian May Smith, and working at North Central College in Minnesota as a business instructor. The signature on this application is an exact match to his World War I registration card, which we are 100% sure to be the correct person. What happened between 1940 and the end of his life is also unknown to me, but at some point he moved to Titusville, Pennsylvania, where he was married to a woman named Gladys Hogue Krueger. He died in 1972 in Titusville according to his death record, and is buried in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery in Oil Creek Township, Venango Co. Pennsylvania. His death record also states that he was a minister at the time of his death. Researching William has been quite a task, as the records on him have a tendency to be incorrect, even though he was often the one giving the information. For example, on his social security application, he listed his father’s name as Henry August Krueger, even though there never was a man by that name. His final wife, Gladys Hogue, also did not seem to know the truth about William’s past, as she listed his birthdate as March 1, 1899 and birthplace as Saginaw, Michigan—however, the social security number matches the application I have. While it would seem like I might be looking at several different William Kruegers, I am absolutely certain that it is him as I have matched items such as his signature and social security number to many of the records I have found. What seems more likely is that William had many different wives, and possibly attempted to obscure his past from them. At this point, I’m basically in search of anyone that might know more about William and his life after he left Chicago in the 1930s. He had at least two more wives, possibly more, and so I’m guessing that there have to be people out there that know something.
