I am searching for my grandmother's brother, John Andrew Holmer. He was born in Trondheim, Sor-Trondlag, Norway in 1882. He came to the USA in 1908 and lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Christian and Josephine Klem in Brooklyn. Next he is found on his draft registration card for WWI working for Lewis Nixon as a "houseman" at 57th and Madison Avenue in 1918. Lewis Nixon was a ship magnate who was also very active in the Democratic Party. It is possible John Holmer was married to Augusta Atkinson and had two children Arthur Holmer in 1924 and Edward Holmer in 1929 in Brooklyn. This marriage has not been documented as of 2005 but is highly likely. Family lore says John worked for the Rockefellers as a butler but that is probably ust family lore. Rockefeller's were Republican and it is more possible that John worked for the Roosevelt's or some other important Democrat as that is where he had his connections. John Holmer would visit his sister, Jenny Holmer Sandberg Anderson, on a farm East of Sioux City, IA, in the 1930's. He would come on the train dressed very well, with many nice gifts and not looking forward to staying on a farm. He was accustomed to a much better life in New York City.
