Query Text: |
Betty Jane Donaldson was living in Carlinville, IL with her mother and possibly father when she was adopted in the 1930's or 1940. When her father and mother, Marion T. and Dolly M. (Holman) Donaldson (Rull) divorced in 1942, she was living in the Lutheran Home of Peoria, Illinois. She would have been born in Macoupin County, Illinois (probably Bunker Hill, IL) in 1928 and moved to Carlinville with her family in October 1929. She was listed in the divorce as being 14 years of age (divorce in July 1942). Her mother died at the age of 98 in 1989 and the daughter was listed as having died (she was listed by the name Betty Donaldson and not any married name). Thus, in my opinion the family assumed she had passed and placed that in her mother's obituary. She had 5 brothers and sisters of whom the last died in 1999. Her closest biological survivors would be cousins. It is my understanding that once a child reached a certain age (currently 14) they can approve or deny the application of person(s) to adopt the child. I also assume that since she was at least 14 years of age, her first or middle name would have remained the same. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
