Grehan, Newport Co Mayo 1870s & 1880s I am looking for any information regarding Grehans from County Mayo. In particular, James Grehan, his wife Matilda McNicol and their children, Matilda, Teresa and William. There may have been other kids and I know James was married previously, possibly to Mary Glennon. James was serving with the Royal Irish Constabulary and was born approx 1832 in West Galway. He served for 30 years and then for some unknown reason, committed suicide in 1883.His father was Michael Grehan and he may of had a brother called Thomas who also served with the R.I.C. though only breifly for one year. I know that James's son William ended up in Glasgow around 1891, living with his mothers brother James McNicol and his wife Catherine McElroy. Williams mother Matilda McNicol was born approx 1840s 1850s in Londonderry and her parents were John McNicol and Alithia O'Kane. What became of Matilda and her two daughters, Teresa and Matilda, I've no idea. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
