Query Text: |
I am researching the family tree of the Clarke family who were farmers originally from Ballinahown, Co Wicklow, Ireland. Ballinahown was a townland situated in the west of county Wicklow, near the town of Blessington. The area was flooded by the Poulaphouca Reservoir project in the 1930s-40s and the family moved away, into the neighbouring county of Kildare. The first John Clarke we have found was born around the year 1804 presumably in the above area, although we cannot be sure of this. He appears to have married a Mary Farrell in 1825 in Valleymount / Blackditches / Baltiboys Co Wicklow Ireland Roman Catholic church. They appear to have had at least ten children. If anyone can help with any information about him, his antecedents or his descendents we would be grateful. We have some research already done, and if anyone is interested we could share information. We have found relations with the following names: Twyford; Farrell; Healy; Butler; Mahon; Murphy; Quinn; Barry; Byrne; O'Donoghue; Geoghegan; Redmond, Fitzpatrick, Freeman. There is some indication that possibly two Clarke sisters, Elizabeth (1852-????)and Teresa (1846-????) may have emigrated to the USA.
