James Haldane WATT (b 1799 Edinburgh) eldest son of John WATT and Ann HUNTER who were married in Lady Yester's Parish, Edinburgh in 1797. John was an Auctioneer (later Architect) and Ann was the daughter of William HUNTER, Threadmaker of DUNDEE. James Haldane WATT, was a watchmaker/jeweller in Edinburgh and he married Isobella CARSE / KERSS of Kelso/Sprouston in 1825. They emigrated circa 1837-9 via Sydney Australia, arriving in Auckland NZ circa 1840 where James started up a watchmaker/jeweller business. Isobella died in Jan 1848 aged 49. James returned briefly to Scotland in 1849 where in September in Glasgow he married Jane Saunders NEILSON/NELSON of Dumfries, returning to NZ to raise a family of 3 sons: Robert Henry, David Bruce & John and 1 daughter, Sarah Jane Watt who married John Clynne ANGUS back in England in the 1880's?. Looking for connections back in Scotland/England: Parents of John Watt & Ann Hunter, siblings of James Haldane WATT (possibly a brother Henry) Jane Saunders Neilson was the second daughter of Robert Nelson/Nelson and Sarah Hannah. Family records indicate that Robert Neilson(?) was a cousin of Lord Horatio Nelson. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
