My grandfather was John Donoghue. He was born in 1898 in Tuam, Co.Galway Ireland. His parents were Patrick Donoghue and Bridget Darcy.The family moved to Athlone in Co. Roscommon at some point. John Donoghue came to the USA in 1923 along with his brother Willie (William I suppose)and settled in NY. Willie Donoghue was an upholsterer by trade in Ireland (or so I have been told). The last I know positively of Willie, is that he was the best man at my grandfather's wedding in June of 1925. My mother's cousin says she may vaguely recollect Willie being around in the early 1930's, but she said she could be wrong. So at some point in the mid-late 1920's or 1930's Willie Donoghue moved to the western USA. Some family members seem to remember it as having been to Colorado, some say Arizona was where he ended up. We really don't know. It is also said that Willie changed his last name to Barrett (also this may not be spelled correctly). I do not know if this is true either, although it is generally accepted as fact in the family. My mother's cousin does seem to remember that either her mother or grandmother (Willie's sister and mother) received a telegram at some point in time telling them that Willie had died out west, and that he had had a child. But noone remembers if any information was given about this child. We would really like to find this lost relative, or any information on Willie Donoghue "Barrett". My guess is he most likely died (if he actually did die) around the late 1940's - early 1950's. If anyone thinks they can help with this I would really appreciate it!!!
