Query Text:

Iam looking for information on my gg grandfather, John TUNNEY. He immigrated to the United States in 1865 from England, he was then about 20 years old. He settled in Allegheny County, Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania. On later U.S. Federal Censuses, it indicates Washington County, Union Township, Elrama, community of Floreffe, Pennsylvania. I realize now that there was a boundary change. He actually was in the same area. He was a Coal Miner. He married Susan BROWN about 1869. They had about 9 children. The childrens names were, Margaret, (who married a WEIGHTMAN), Andrew, Anne, (who married a DOUGHTY), Elizabeth, (who married a HILL), Alice, (who died at young age after falling into a well), (I still have no proof of Alice), Mary (who married Heyward RITTER), Isabella, Ellen and Ethel (who married a ROGERSON). There was also another John W. TUNNEY which resided with and later nearby; he married a Mary. This is apparently a cousin since both were named John TUNNEY and both were the very same age. I have also found their censuses in England and found that John's mother's maiden name was Margaret CARMICHAEL They were living in the household of Charles and Jane JOHNSON BROWN in 1870. These were Susan's parents. Some censuses indicate Susan was born in Kentucky and some say Pennsylvania; still others say Indiana. (It is believed the name GREEN fits in somewhere but have found nothing that supports that to date). I do not know where the family was buried. I do know that John TUNNEY made at least 2 trips to England by vessel out of Ellis Island to the Port of Liverpool. I live out of State and am not really familiar with the Pennsylvania area. Although I was born in Ellwood City, PA, I grew up in California and now reside in Texas. If you are a relative of any of these people or perhaps someone who knows something about the TUNNEY family or the BROWN'S, I would really love to hear from you. Mary (TUNNEY) RITTER was my great grandmother. After marrying Heyward August RITTER in 1901, she relocated with her husband and children to Beaver County, Fombell, Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. I have since learned that her Grandparents, Charles and Jane BROWN and most of their children, relocated to Stafford County, Kansas about 1874. Susan and her older brother Robert Brown stayed in Pennsylvania.
