My great grandmother was Elizabeth Ann Ziegler b Jan 1862, d/o Jacob Ziegler and Elizabeth Ann Harry. Jacob Ziegler was b 7/3/1825 in VA and d 11/15/1896 in Winnsboro, Wood, TX. I believe EA Harry was Jacob's second wife. I have found quite a lot of information on Jacob but cannot locate either of his parents or any siblings. I will be very grateful for anything you have on them. Here is what I have found so far on Jacob Ziegler (1825-1896): Descendants of JACOB Ziegler Generation No. 1 1. ELDER JACOB2 ZIEGLER (JACOBSFATHER1 ZIGLER) was born Jul 03, 1825 in Virginia, and died Nov 15, 1896 in Winnsboro, Wood, TX. He married ELIZABETH ANN HARRY 1859, daughter of BENJAMIN HARRY and SUSAN WILLIAMS. She was born Nov 29, 1836 in Green Co., AL, and died Aug 25, 1909. Notes for ELDER JACOB ZIEGLER: Mistakenly read as Bigler on 1880 census. Spelled Ziegler in 1860 census. From a Winnsboro, TX (Wood County) newspaper clipping, unknown date: "Smyrna Church was organized on the first Sunday in June, 1869 by Elder Jacob Ziegler. There were 16 constitution members, a list of which was printed in last week's News. Following is a list of pastors who have served this church: Elder Jacob Ziegler from organization date until February 1879". Descriptions of Civil War Service: http://www.angelfire.com/tx3/RandysTexas/TenthTexasCavalry.htm http://www.civilwarhistory.com/photosaugust/fort_morgan.html Ziegler, Jacob ^ # (#denotes muster rolls of 9/25/1861 and 10/7/1861.^denotes muster roll sometime after 10/20/1861) 1st Sgt. Wounded 12/31/1862 at Murfreesboro, Tenn., promoted Capt/ 9/19/1863. Commanded the Tenth at its surrender at Meridian, Miss, May 9, 1865 (E. G. Littlejohn Letter Smith Co. Chronicles Winter 1978, Summer 1979. #49). Applied under the Confederate Veterans Act of 1881, in Wood Co., Texas. (Not to be confused with Capt. Jacob Ziegler of Pennsylvania) More About ELDER JACOB ZIEGLER: Burial: Inscription: Co. B 10th TX Cav., CSA (Smyrna Cemetery) Cemetery: Smyrna Cemetery, Winnsboro, Wood, TX Occupation: Jun 18, 1880, Baptist minister Residence: Jun 18, 1880, Precinct 4, Wood Co., TX Notes for ELIZABETH ANN HARRY: Mistakenly read as Bigler on 1880 census. Spelled Elizabeth Ziegler on 1860 census. In 1850 census, whole family was counted twice, once in Lauderdale, MS in November, and in Texas in December. In 1900 census, Elizabeth Zeigler claims 6 out of 6 children living. Earlier census' show 8 children. Is she stepmother to the first two? Thank you and best regards, Caren | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
