I am sad to say that I have learned that AVCM Johnnie Quincey Herrin (CMC of RVAH-5 in 1968/69), his wife, his oldest daughter Vicki, and his granddaughter died in a plane crash on April 5th, 1988 near Manassas, VA. They are buried in Hew Hope Cemetery, New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Brantley County, Georgia.
When I was a sea pup Johnnie Quincey was my mentor. I met his wife and four daughters, helped him with his bees, and was impressed by his strong character and moral fiber. I was deeply saddened when I learned of his death. I admired him and used him as my roll model and benchmark during my navy career.
If anyone knows is surviving daughters please give them my condolences.
