I'm seeking wartime service information about my maternal great grandfather, Samuel Jackson Jeffers (b.3/24/1840, Athens, Ohio; d.3/22/1915 Vinton County, Ohio). He served as a private in Co. B of the 53rd Ohio Infantry Regiment. I know he spent a year in a hospital recuperating from wounds, and was discharged a Pfc. He married Elizabeth Shields May 6, 1866 in Meigs, Ohio, . I'd like to know battles he fought in, possibly how/where he acquired his wounds, and would dearly love to have access to a picture of him.
