Recently the family of Lena Belle Toothman asked me to try and find out information about her parents. Lena was born around April 21, 1891. Her birth county was listed on her marriage license as Monroe County, W.Va.
She was raised by the Goodson family of Richmond District in Raleigh County, W.Va., but no one knows how she came to live with them. Her family believes that her parents weren’t married and her mother died giving birth to Lena. They believe Lena had a brother, Bob, who had a business in Meadow Creek, W.Va.
Lena and her husband George Washington Plumley had 11 children. Seven are still living, the oldest is 86.
Lena is buried in the Washington Plumley Cemetery, a family cemetery on Plumley Mountain in Raleigh County.
Do you have any information about Lena? Could Robert Toothman be her brother?
