I am looking for information on my ancestors that eventually settled in Ohio, in the United States. The name I am searching for is NAAS< NOSS< or NAUS. I have seen it writted all three ways. My great grandfather Frederick NOSS stated on an 1879 US census that he was born in France. His father, Barnhard NOSS stated that he was born in Germany. Family lore has it that the family was from Alsace-Lorraine, although I am not positive of this. Frederick was born in about 1830. I think he had at least one brother Joseph, but I am not sure of that. Barnhard's wife was Catherine (Katarina??) don't know her surname;and I believe they were in their 60s or 70s in 1870. Neither is alive in the 1880 census and I have found no record of their deaths anywhere. Any help locating this family would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has info on ships passenger lists or arrival port and date, I would also love that. Thank you.
