History of Monroe Co., MI. by Talcott E. Wing, 1890:
Edward NOLEN, a successful farmer of Exeter, was born in Ireland, September, 1832. When nineteen years of age he came to America, locating in Indiana, where he remained four years. Two years of the time he was employed by what was at that time called the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad. In the fall of 1856 he came to Michigan, renting a farm in Exeter. Two years later he purchased a farm of 40 acres of land. August 11, 1858, he married Julia CRIMMONS, who was born in Ireland in May, 1832. Five children were born to them.
