Carter, Oklahoma, inquiry. A client of mine is in possession of a very large number (in excess of 300) of hand carved wooden pieces. These pieces are all of a similar scale, about four inches representing about six feet. Most are carved people (both black and white persons, men and women, adult and children) doing whatever mundane "country life" activities one might expect--spinning, rocking, planting, hoeing, working with livestock, etc. Some items are farm houses and related buildings with some livestock. It is my client's understanding that these items were carved by a person who resided in Carter, Oklahoma, probably aroung the 1950s or so. There is some indication that the wood carver may have been imprisoned at some time. There is also some indication that the wood carver might have been an African-American. We are seeking any information concerning this particular wood carver. Please phone if you will, 713-408-9840, or respond to this message by e-mail at clock-lock@juno.com. Thanks. C-L.
