I am doing genealogy research on the surnames of Link and Sledge from VA & NC. My Mother was born on March 30, 1946 to Zelma V. Link Sledge White in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She was given up for adoption. I have located her birth mother, whom is still living in Chesapeake, VA. I have tried to make contact with Zelma a have been ignored. I am not looking for a relationship with my biological grandmother, I would simply like to know why my Mother was given up for adoption when the birth Mother named her for the birth certificate. Was she planning on keeping her, was it an affair, or was it because of finances? I am hoping that someone knows the story. The picture of Zelma is attached to this listing.
