Trying to find ancestors of my grandfather, William Russell Bruce:DOB 18 Apr 1888 DOD 03 Mar 1965, aka Russell. He married my grandmother, Mary Hamilton Crouch(DOB: 22 Apr 1891 DOD: 24 Nov 1960)aka: Mayme,or Mamie, or Mame or spelled at least 6 different ways;married 16 Sep 1913. Prior to that date, he was reported to be married to a lady who passed away either during or shortly after childbirth. The baby lived for a brief time, but not sure if that's hours, days or weeks, and thought to be named Marion. I am researching that now and believe I have a lead. From census record, I have learned his father was J R Bruce, which seems to be John R(DOB ?1863), and Mary( DOB Oct 1870) was his mother. On what apprears to be their marriage license, they married 1866 in Sumner County, TN. I can't go further. I did happen across my grandfather's draft registration and it stated he had another name of Thomas William Russell Bruce and was born in Gallatin, Sumner County, TN. There are a lot of Bruce families in TN,middle TN and especially the Sumner County area during that time. I feel like if I can locate JR Bruce's parents, that will be the key I need to learn my grandfather's ancestors. My mother's name is Betty Jo Bruce Baker (14 Oct 1932) Please, I will be happy for any ideas, suggestions, help I can get.
