My grandmother, Ida M. Mills, born in Iowa, in 1871, lived in Ringgold County Iowa in 1880. Father was L. C. Mills in 1880 federal census. Research indicates father’s first name was Levi and that his fathers name was also Levi. Father was born in Ohio in 1846 or 1845, enlisted in the Union Army in August 1864 at the age of 18, served in Company K, 66th Infantry Regiment until June 1865. He is listed in the 1870 federal census in Iowa, Marion County, Washington township. (Most likely where my grandmother was born) Levi Mills wife’s name was Elizabeth (Unknown), born in Ohio in 1849. They are list in the 1880 federal census in Iowa, Ringgold County, Poe Township. Children listed are, Ida M. (my grandmother), 9 years old, born in Iowa, William D. (abbreviated Wm.), 6 years old, born in Ohio and Salinda M., 2 years old born in Iowa. Minnesota Land Records list a Homestead Entry for Levi C. Mills in October 1890 at the St. Cloud Land Office. Military records list a request for Civil War Pension for Levi C. Mills living in Minnesota who served in the K-66 Ohio Infantry. ( My uncle Levi N. Phillips was born in Minnesota in 1891, the oldest of my fathers siblings)
My grandfather was John W. Phillips born in Missouri. The data provided below is a good match of my grandfather, it is from the 1870 and 1880 federal census.

The John/Jon W. listed above matches the time frame that fits my grandfather. There is a listing in the 1895 Iowa State Census for a John W. Phillips age 30, born in Missouri, living in Iowa, Clay County, Douglas township. I do not have the records showing any family in that census, nor do I know if the state census listed such information.
My grandparents had a stormy relationship which ended with the death of my grandmother in 1909 in Georgetown, Nebraska. There were at least 8 children born between 1891 and 1909. When my grandmother died my grand father placed all of the children below the age of 15, except for Irvin born in 1896, who lived with his mothers family (Mills), and Hester born in 1909, who was adopted by the Sells of Mason City, Nebraska. in an orphanage in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa. My grandfather is rumored to have run afoul of the law in Julesburg, CO. some time between 1910 and 1913 and may have been hanged or shot.
So I have my grandmothers family in Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska, and My grandfathers family maybe, in North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota and Nebraska. My uncle Levi N. Phillips middle name is Nicholas, the N. in George N. Phillips born in North Carolina could have been Nicholas, I have seen some Phillips with that given name. I continue to search, any help would be greatly appreciated.
