This is an attempt to locate records regarding my ancestors in Ireland. I’m trying to find out exactly were in Ireland my ancestors originated, and any additional information about them. What leads me to County Limerick, Ireland is the inscription on the tombstone of my Great Great Uncles. The tombstone was erected by my Great Great Grandmother and her sister Ellen Ready Roche for the graves of two of their brothers Denis Ready and Patrick Ready. It appears that Denis and Patrick were twins and possibly were never married. The inscription states "NATIVE OF CO. LIMERICK". My Great Great Grandfather William Conery married Mary Ready and had two sons, Thomas Conery and Dennis Conery. Their marriage and children’s births all took place in Ireland. I do not have any knowledge of any other children being born. And do not have any record of William Conery's parents or if he had any brothers or sisters. I believe that the Conery family came to the USA sometime around 1851 possibly through the Port of New Orleans. It is possible that after arriving in the USA they did spend time near Huntly, Illinois prior to moving to Iowa. Other records indicate various Connery and Ready surnames residing in that area. Documents reveal that William Conery settled in Howard County, Iowa in 1856 and acquired land in Howard County, Iowa on March 2, 1857. The Iowa land records also reveal money being loaned to William and Mary Conery in December 1862 from an Edward Raidy a resident of New York City. A subsequent land transaction in April 1863 with Edward Reidy resident of Howard County, Iowa. Mary Ready Conery’s sister Ellen Ready is believed to have married a William Roche in Ireland. It appears that possibly Thomas Conery married a Mary Roche in Iowa. Records indicate a number of Roche surnames in Howard County at that time. The first Catholic Church in western Howard County, Iowa was built in 1860 and the land for the church was donated by a James Roche.
