My name is Kelly Tyler, and I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am mulatto, and I am researching my paternal grandfather's father. His name was Jackson Cox and was born in Indian Territory in 1876. He married my great-grandmother, Ole Ruffin, on September 12th, 1905. However, by 1910, the marriage appears to be over and I am now beginning to believe it was because Mr. Cox passed away. The 1910 census shows Ole (pronounced Ola) living with her son, my grandfather, Dwight L. (Sonny) Cox, and her parents. I know Ole's mother name was Matilda/Mathilda and her father's name was Charles. She also had a brother, Will, and I believe, but I'm not sure, a sister named Ora. It's possible she had more siblings who decided not to join their parents in their trek to the "promised land" - Alberta and Saskatchewan here in Canada in 1910 or 1911, but I really don't know for sure. But I am sure that while living here in Canada, she met and married a man named George Tyler; unfortunately, at 33 in February, 1919, she fell victim to the great influenza epidemic. Her sister, Ora, if indeed she had a sister named Ora, also met the same fate. My great-great-grandfather, Ruffin, had died a few years earlier from an infection in his foot which he had cut with an axe. Unfortunately, Mr. Ruffin was deeply religious and subscribed to the school of thinking that "if God leads you to it, he will lead you through it." I'm sure that I must still have relatives living in Oklahoma, and I would dearly love to hear from any relations or anyone who knew of these people. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
