John was born around 1810 in Ireland. He came to the U.S. before 1835. He married Rosanna Walker, born 1812 in Ireland (possibly Balleymoney, County Antrim). John and Rosanna had a son, James H. Leach, born 15 Feb 1835 in Derby, VT. John died in 1843. Very shortly thereafter, James went to Canada at age 9 when his mother left him.
