I'm looking for the intersection of the Vreelands (came to New Jersey from the Netherlands in 1688) and the Van Ripers (also farmers in New Jersey very early). My grandmother Vreeland, born 1898, said that at some point way back a male forebear Vreeland married someone whose name she THOUGHT was Katrinka or Katrina Van Riper. I am having a difficult time finding the parents of my great grandfather, Joseph John Thein. Born,May 9,1862 in Germany. I can trace back to Michael Helmantel in Manakees, Fredrick, Maryland USA. Some family lines list him as son of Johan Anton Hellenthal from Bingen. I found a Michael Helmandel who was born in 1600 in Bingen. His surname is also spelled Helmantel or Hilmantel. There are also others listed in the "Die Stadt der Feuerbr�nde Bingen".
